Voice Raise 2026

VoiceRaise is an annual gathering of LA Voice staff, community members, and Los Angeles county leaders.

About

VoiceRaise is an annual gathering of LA Voice staff, community members, and Los Angeles county leaders. Over a catered dinner and community-reflective performances, we come together across race, place, and faith to celebrate our wins, and look toward the future at an LA County that reflects the dignity of all people.

This Little Light

“In light of the universe we’ve inherited and the gift of our lives, what kind of human beings ought we be? What kind of human beings does the God of the universe require of us?” - Rev. James Lawson

The belief that each person is imbued with a spark of the divine is foundational to LA Voice’s mission. It is why we stand firm in our commitment to transforming LA County into one of equity and abundance for all.  As the late Rev. Lawson suggests, it is how we cultivate that spark, that light, that makes all the difference.

honorees

Brandon lamar
Brandon Lamar will be honored with the Umar Hakim-Dey Voice of Justice Award, given to community partners who demonstrate outstanding commitment to promoting and defending racial and social justice. It’s clear why he more than merits this honor: Brandon is a force for change dedicated to justice, equity, and the empowerment of marginalized communities. As the President of the Pasadena NAACP and former Vice-Chair of the Pasadena Rental Housing Board, Brandon is on the front lines of advocacy, championing policies that dismantle systemic barriers and create opportunities for all.

Brandon was instrumental in the establishment of Pasadena’s Police Oversight Board and Pasadena Rent Stabilization Department, groundbreaking initiatives. As the founder of Merge Black Pasadena, the Young Kings Mentoring Retreat, and Project Passion, he has cultivated spaces where young people, community members, and changemakers can unite, grow, and take action. Brandon is grounded by faith, family, and an unshakable belief in the power of unity.
Fr. Brendan Busse, SJ
Fr. Brendan Busse, S.J., known lovingly as ‘Fr. B’, will be honored with the Daría Nuñez Legacy Award, given to leaders in our community who exemplify dedication and commitment to LA Voice and its mission. Fr. Brendan entered the Society of Jesus in 2008 and currently serves as pastor at Dolores Mission Church, a board member of Proyecto Pastoral, a board member of the Loyola Institute of Spirituality. Born and raised in Southern California, Fr. Brendan also helps coordinate the Los Angeles regional CORE team (Collaborative Organizing for Racial Equity) for the Jesuits West Province.

As a clergy leader for LA Voice, Fr. Brendan has organized people across LA County to uplift the voices of those closest to harm, and thus closest to the solutions that will transform LA County into one of equity and abundance for all. From his work on affordable housing and income inequality, to his tireless commitment face-to-face with armed masked agents in righteous love and soulful resistance to attacks on our immigrant neighbors, Fr. Brendan exemplifies what it means to build faith and power.
