Overview: LA Voice requests donations to our Love Fund for Families of the Detained to support our direct relief efforts surrounding the series of coordinated immigration raids conducted across LA County by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with support from the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Background: Founded in 2004, LA Voice is a multi-racial, multi-faith organization with a mission to transform Los Angeles into a county that reflects the human dignity of all communities, with racial and economic equity and abundant life for all. LA Voice pursues this mission by organizing marginalized communities to be active participants in the decisions that impact their well-being. We prioritize those closest to the problem of racial injustice, awakening people to their own power, and training them to analyze, strategize, and work together.
Due to the recent efforts of ICE to disrupt civic life and separate individuals and families from their communities, LA Voice is once again raising funds to provide direct cash assistance to individuals and families negatively impacted by the recent raids and protests. Several of our congregations have families who have lost a family member to the detentions. One member congregation has 14 impacted families. Congregations from Hawthorne to Pasadena to LA to La Puente to Baldwin Park have impacted families in need of support. Support includes, but is not limited to:
- Lost wages
- Basic needs (e.g., diapers, groceries)
- Legal support
- Medical expenses
