LAobserved.com, the Los Angeles media-and-politics junkie's favorite fix, has been up and down for the past few days due to some hosting problems.
Last night, the site was completely invisible for at least an hour as - presumably - the byzantine system of internet name registry tried to figure out how to handle chief observer Kevin Roderick's decision to switch hosting companies. As of this morning, it appears the shift is complete and LAobserved is where it belongs, albeit still hanging onto a just-in-case redirect page pointing to its new location ... UPDATE - Browser-caching at the time was causing me to see the old notice, which had probably been taken down a few hours earlier - all's kosher now ... but read on ...

The page says: L.A. Observed has moved
Click here to be taken to the current blog.
There's no need to change your bookmarks or do anything else. Over the next 24-36 hours, the Internet's registrars will adjust and point www.laobserved.com to the right place. While that is happening, the address on your browser will look a little off.
All the posts, archives, links and comments from here are over there on the new server. Alas, any comments left here at the lameduck version of L.A. Observed since last night won't be making the trip.

Switching servers
Some posts, comments and email were lost Tuesday due to host and server issues. So L.A. Observed is moving to a new host. Most of the move will have occured Tuesday night, but there may be some hiccups on Wednesday.
I suggest you hold off posting comments until this notice is taken down. Your comments may be brilliant, but they won't be transferred to the new server. Also: if I ignored your email it probably was lost in the ether. Please send again...Kevin

• Previous posts Roderick switched to Total Choice Hosting from LunarPages, which bumped him to a different server and started billing him extra for running Moveable Type, one of the most popular blog apps in use today.
Why am I boring you with all this inside baseball? Because LAVoice.org feels his pain. Back in January, I had to move the site because its host at the time had lost the LAVoice.org domain name - that's right, lost it - and I was forced to operate as LosAngelesVoice.com just to keep the site alive. After about two months of tearing my hair out waiting for the domain to get unlocked, I kicked my host to the curb and jumped to ... (wait for it) ... LunarPages.
Let me just say, running blog-based web sites is not for the faint of heart - particularly if you're serving as publisher, editor, writer, programmer, designer and sanitation engineer.
So far, LunarPages hasn't caused me the kind of hassles Kevin's been experiencing, but it might be just a matter of time. While LAVoice runs on the quirky, if script-free PostNuke system, I have a personal blog project running on Moveable Type.
Of course, if LAVoice suddenly starts going through spastic conniptions, you'll know what happened and you're all invited to send me a hearty "LOL! ROFLMAO!."
