Before you unwrap your breakfast sandwich, Nutri-grain bar or whatever it is that you chose to partake of somewhere between your exit from the bus and just before you clock into work--freeze! Don't let one iota of your meal touches your hands. This is where you should insert hand sanitizer into your day. As one of the oh-so fortunate people who daily commute to work by way of Metro there are some things we simply shouldn’t skip out on: like making the effort to disinfect our you-know-whats. No big deal? Digest this: "Health experts estimate that 80% of infectious diseases are spread by hand contact," according to Healthy Hands USA.
Every time I ride the bus I see some older man coughing on the back of some unsuspecting woman’s head. Or some stuffy nosed, itching throat person sneezing then putting their hands on the poles ...
You might as well ask the person sitting next to you to spit on their hands, wipe most of the slime on their shirt then gently rub their hand on your sandwich before you take the first bite.
A small travel size of hand sanitizer from Savon or any store of that nature is well worth the investment. Hand sanitizer can only do so much, but it helps. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) strongly recommends alcohol-based hand sanitizers as the primary method of hand hygiene...when hands are not visibly soiled," as Healthy Hands USA reports.
Washing your hands isn’t limited to after you use the restroom. It’s totally okay to not want to carry the germs of countless commuters into your stomach’s residence. It’s great to be close to your fellow L.A. neighbors but we don’t have to be that close. I’m not trying to sound like your mom, but when it comes down to it a little bit of hand sanitizer can go a long way.
