KABC pulls a blunder even small market stations wouldn't have pulled

Super Bowl Sunday is Christmas in February for the network that hosts it and for their local affiliates.
But tonight, LA's own KABC tested even their most loyal viewers by pulling the plug on the last 15 minutes of one of the best episodes of Gray's Anatomy in the show's history. They had a built-in lead-in from the Super Bowl, but they cut away from the show's climactic final act for the end of a car chase, and a newscast that was little more than a promo for the station's not-so-new HD capabilities. The cut-away probably cost the show and the network a point or two in the overnight ratings, which cuts directly into their bottom line.
If it was an accident, they owe viewers an apology. If it was intentional, they need a few department head changes.
Even affiliates in places like Waco, Grand Forks and Bozeman know better than to pull a blunder like this one.
