Kevin Roderick's formidable LAObserved became a victim of its own popularity just now. Go visit and you'll see what I mean.
Apparently Total Choice shut down LAO without much warning due to high traffic - leaving Roderick's users only the cold comfort of a 509 notice which says in huge letters,
Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.
Here's hoping they can work something out fast.
Coincidentally, LAVoice is facing a similar dilemma: L.A.-based DreamHost is threatening to jack up our hosting costs twelve-fold because high traffic here has reached the level where we need a dedicated server. If anyone knows a way around this, please email me.
