Last Day Of EdgeFest! Two Must See Plays And Several Excellent Productions.

Today - Sunday - is the last day of EdgeFest at the Los Angeles Theater Center with 17 plays on tap from 3:15 to 9:15. Of the plays I have seen, below are the ones I recommend:

CULTURE
Heading my list is 'A Pebble in My Shoe' at 7:15. See my earlier review. This is world class theater and it will be a long time before it again plays Los Angeles. Multiple cities have already asked for this production and New York producers are flying in to see it.

Second on my list is 'Melancholia' which I will review after seeing it a second time tonight. Soldiers return home to East Los Angeles from war and try to forget what they have seen and done. Ninty-five percent of the play is seamless perfection. It has comedy, drama, romance, music, dancing and tragedy. See it at 9:15.

Also at 9:15 is the English language premiere of the Iranian satire - 'The Ass'. Funny, dramatic and thought provoking. A women wakes up to discover her husband has turned into an ass. Two superb performances. Will review shortly.

At 7:15 are three plays worth seeing.

First is the much praised 'Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake) by Moving Arts; a very dark, often very funny, comedy. After a family tragedy, a neglected house takes revenge on it's unsuspecting inhabitants.

Second is, Slut, which despite its name is a warm, funny comedy about relationships. See my earlier review.

Third is, 'Uncle Walt's "Women in Prison" - which is pretty much what you would expect. A musical about a woman's prison in the off-off Broadway mode. Funny and with several stand-out performances.
