Storm Watch: I hear Seattle's Nice This Time of Year

“Everybody talks about the weather, but no one ever does anything about it.”
-- Mark Twain

How hard has it been raining in Los Angeles?

Harder than last time. Five to 7 inches in five hours in the Valley. Hailstorms, flooding, mudslides. It was raining whales and bull elephants.

Hard enough to <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-rain19feb19,1,3128387.story?coll=la-headlines-california"">cave in the roof of Virgin Megastore:
About 3:30 p.m. Friday, employees at the Virgin Megastore in the 800 block of North San Fernando Boulevard heard a section of the roof beginning to crack. The store was evacuated, and about 10 people were still inside when a 20-foot section of the ceiling caved in about 10 minutes later. Officials estimated the damage at $100,000 ...
ENVIRONMENT
Hard enough to shut down the MTA's Blue and Green Lines, Highway 126 near Fillmore, and the 5 in both directions in City of Commerce.

Hard enough to make me fear for the La Conchita residents who are relying on the Ventura County Sheriff's page - which hasn't been updated since January 15th.

Hard enough to continue lousing up the Nissan Open golf tournament at Riviera Country club, if that's your thing.

Hard enough to kill a UCLA tennis match.

How hard is it raining today?

Up to 15 inches by Tuesday. That's how hard.

Hard enough to make the roof of our place in West L.A., reverberate like a drum for about 20 minutes this morning - It looked as though the air-to-water ratio was about 1:1.

Hard enough to make people in the Anaheim Hills very nervous about this.

Hard enough for the National Weather Service to issue flash flood warnings for the entire county.

Here's the 3-day forecast. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

Oh, and I think it's time for some new rain metaphors. What's your take on the "cats and dogs" cliche? It's raining hammers and anvils? Fords and Chevys?

It's comin' down like a cow pissin' on a flat rock. It's a-hammerin' like Thor out there. It's Niagara Time. Lifeboats away! It's raining so hard the LAPD's wearing Kevlar snorkels. It's raining so hard they're shoveling fish out of the Hollywood Bowl. It's raining so hard that surf's up at the Getty.

It's raining so hard ... well, you probably have better ideas than I do. Let's hear 'em.
