Bloggers Without Borders was meant to be a free space for web users from all nations to blog about world events without fear of recrimination on their own soil. But it quickly became a node for funneling online donations to help survivors of the catastrophic South Asian tsunamis.
BWB co-founders Jonas Luster and Sean Bonner worked with Xeni Jardin and Wil Wheaton to launched the site precipitously (it was only conceived of in October, and still unfinished), with this statement of purpose:
Bloggers without Borders is a citizen journalism hub, dedictated to raising conscience for, and about, events around the world. We use the tools and exposure of modern citizen journalism as a means to lend a hand in the creation of awareness and outbound information management.
Now, however, much of the site's content and activity is centered on relief efforts in South Asia.
