  L.A Mayor's Race -- City's Own "Reality" TV Show

[The following is a press release from Walter Moore, the Republican candidate for mayor of L.A. in the March 2005 election. His website is Mayor4U.com]

Pop quiz: what is the worst use of your hard-earned tax dollars you can imagine? If you guessed "make a TV show about L.A. City Council members eating at their favorite restaurants," you are correct. The latest "reality show" comes not from Hollywood, but from City Hall, courtesy of you, the taxpayer. We supposedly can't afford enough police, but we can afford to hire a camera crew to follow Mayor Hahn's sister, Councilwoman Janice Hahn, while she wines and dines. Here's the riveting story-line, as described at Channel 35's official website:
POWER
"In this pilot episode, City Councilmember Eric Garcetti, who created the concept, invites fellow Councilmember Janice Hahn to take him and the viewers on a visit to some of her favorite restaurants in her council district."

Republican mayoral candidate Walter Moore commented: "What in the heck are they thinking? Do they really believe that people who can't afford to eat out because their taxes are so high will enjoy seeing city officials living high on the hog? Why is the City spending tax dollars on a re-make of 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous'? What's next? Are they going to film the mayor's upcoming trip abroad and call it 'Hahn's Passage to India?' Or perhaps they'll pitch Hahn's $9.1
billion LAX boondoggle as a pilot -- so to speak -- for 'Extreme Airport Make-Overs.'"

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Daily News reported today that Mayor Hahn -- who is three-and-a-half years into his four-year term -- just "announced he has created a 19-member Council of Economic Advisers, charged with developing strateigies for immediate- and long-term
goals." Hey, Mr. Mayor, here's an "immediate goal": quit wasting our money on your sister's stupid TV show. And nice timing, by the way. After all, why rush into studying something as trivial as the health of the city's economy? After all, we had to tackle that nasty "Silly
String" problem...

Republican mayoral candidate Walter Moore has vowed to cut what he calls "obsence waste" from the City's budget. Moore studied economics extensively at Princeton University, and graduated with honors with a degree in Public and International Affairs. Based on his training,
Moore contends the City can create jobs by, among other things, eliminating the City's business tax because it drives employers out of L.A. and into neighboring cities. Moore also opposes giving away taxpayers' money to developers to "help them" build their projects, a practice he calls "welfare for the rich." Instead, Moore favors cutting taxes and spending, and letting private investors, including Wal-Mart, spend their own money building stores, factories, offices and housing that they think will be profitable. "Bureaucrats shouldn't dabble in investment banking, especially when the money they're gambling with belongs to taxpayers," Moore said.
