PoxCom: LAPD Acted Correctly in Peña Shootout

Police Commission President John Mack issued a statement yesterday summing up the investigation into the death of 19-month-old Suzie Peña, whose father used her as a shield during a desperate shootout with LAPD officers on July 10, 2007.

The conclusion: José Peña triggered his daughter's death, and everyone in the final shootout did their jobs according to policy. Two officers who were working the scene's perimeter and who weren't involved in the final shootout received "administrative disapproval" for their tactics, and were found "out of policy" for their use of force.

The statement on the LAPD Blog is well worth the read, but sparse on details, which Mack promises to post there later in the form of a full report.
