It's done. Four years and $93 million later, the beloved Griffith Observatory is open and gorgeous inside and out.
The notorious fictitious bike gang IAAL-MAF is celebrating with our second invitational ride November 16, when we welcome L.A. cyclists to join us and Take Back Griffith Observatory. DATE: Thugsday, November 16
TIME: Gather at 6:30 p.m.; Ride at 7 p.m.
STARTS & ENDS: Crystal Street at Fletcher in Atwater Village (map)
HOW FAR: 15.5 miles (route) Just three caveats about the route ...
|
|
1) It's gonna be dark. The fire roads Will mapped out are largely unlit, and covered by trees, and it'll be close to a new moon Plus, ride down is fast, curvy and equally dim. Bring a headlight and tail flasher, not to mention a brain bucket.
2) It might be cold. Climbing - not so much. You'll work up a sweat. Coming down - it's mid-November, you might be doing 25mph-plus depending on how adventurous you are - trust us, you'll get a chill.
3) About that climbing: It's steep. MTB'ers can granny-gear it, but it's a long climb, and a 1,000-foot elevation change. Fixie folk are encouraged to zigzag to make the climb less brutal.
Four caveats. There are actually four caveats:
It's gonna be dark, it's gonna be cold, it's gonna be steep - and you'll kick yourself if you don't bring a camera. Oh, and a lock to secure your wheels during the tour.
We look forward to seeing all the good souls who joined us for the Hello, Dahlia Invitational and meeting new friends. See you there!
