Fight Now - or Kiss Internet Freedom Good-bye

Listen: We're all about to lose control of the Internet. I'm dead serious.

You may have missed this. But on Wednesday, a Congressional subcommittee is poised to vote on a Texas congressman's outrageous proposal to turn over control of the Internet from its users and supporting organizations like ICANN, EFF and W3C to private industry.

Read that sentence again, and consider what a privately-run Internet would mean to you ...
POWER
Are you surprised? Think the threat's not real? Wrong. The mainstream media just hasn't been reporting much about it.

Here's how your Congress members are preparing to vote this Wednesday.

If you use the Internet every day, you know that it has become an environmental element almost as to human health, freedom and progress as clean air and water.

If you want to stop congress from giving it away to private telcos who will surely find ways to:
- limit
- channel
- adjust
- censor
- restrict
- control
- and grab power away from you that the Internet represents
,

... then you are going to have to step up and speak for yourself.

I'm not doing it for you. AT&T won't do it for you. U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman hasn't committed yet to doing it for you.

You have to do it:

Get smart:
- SavetheInternet.com

Email Congress:
Write your senator or representative

Call:
Call the uncommitted members of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunication from California:

- Rep. Lois Capps (D) 202-225-3601
- Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D) 202-225-3976
- Rep. Mary Whitaker Bono (R) 202-225-5330
- and elsewhere

Sign the petitions:
- SavetheInternet.com
- MoveOn

Add to your MySpace friends:
- Add the issue to your MySpace friends

Got a blog? WRITE ABOUT THIS ISSUE before Congress gives private industry the power to fuck with your freedom to do so.
